Kongsberg Discovery showcases Blue Insight at Oceanology International 2026

ARCFISH partner Kongsberg Discovery brought its latest ocean technologies to Oceanology International 2026, held at ExCeL London from 10–12 March. The international event brings together industry, academia and the wider ocean community to showcase developments in marine science and technology. Kongsberg Discovery participated with an extensive programme of new technology launches, workshops, presentations and live demonstrations.
Of particular relevance to ARCFISH was the presentation of Blue Insight, Kongsberg Discovery's digital platform for managing, processing, analysing and visualising ocean data. Blue Insight provides the technological foundation for the ARCFISH Digital Twin of the Ocean.
At Oceanology International, Kongsberg demonstrated Blue Insight as part of an end-to-end workflow integrating its Kongsberg Listen electromagnetic sensing system. The upgraded Listen software has been integrated with the Blue Insight ecosystem, allowing data to move from raw measurements through processing to visualisation and decision-ready information within a common digital environment.
The technology was explored in a dedicated workshop, “Seamless processing of electromagnetic data in Blue Insight acquired with the Listen sensor system,” led by Kongsberg Discovery experts Johan Mattsson and Leif Bildøy. The demonstration showed participants how data collected at sea can be processed and visualised in Blue Insight, illustrating the broader potential of integrated digital platforms to transform complex ocean observations into accessible and usable information.
For ARCFISH, Blue Insight is being adapted to the very different challenges of Arctic fisheries. The project integrates environmental and ecosystem information alongside fisheries-related data, with demonstration areas in West Greenland and the region extending from Iceland northwards towards Svalbard and the Barents Sea. The aim is to explore how a Digital Twin of the Ocean can provide new data products and services to support fisheries management and decision-making.
Kongsberg's wider presence at Oceanology International also demonstrated the increasingly close relationship between ocean observing technologies, automated data processing, analytics and digital platforms. Alongside Blue Insight, the company presented innovations spanning autonomous underwater vehicles, hydroacoustic sensing, navigation and subsea analytics, supported by live technology demonstrations.
These developments provide a wider technology context for ARCFISH as the project continues to develop and test its Arctic fisheries Digital Twin and demonstrate how better integration and accessibility of marine data can contribute to more informed and sustainable use of Arctic ocean resources.
