ARCFISH Partners Meet in Reykjavík

The ARCFISH consortium gathered in Reykjavík, Iceland, from 2–3 June 2026 for the project's 2nd annual General Assembly, hosted by Trackwell and MATÍS. The two-day meeting brought together partners from five countries (Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Poland, Portugal) to review progress achieved during the second year of the project and coordinate activities for the final phase of ARCFISH.
Discussions focused on the continued development of the ARCFISH Digital Twin of the Ocean (DTO), including advances in stakeholder engagement, new data products, data ingestion services, and the implementation of the project's Arctic fisheries use cases (Iceland & Greenland).
A highlight of the meeting was an interactive technical session showcasing the latest developments in the Blue Insight platform and the Analytics Workflow Engine (AWE). Partners explored new functionalities for automated data ingestion, regional data storage, and workflow configuration, helping to prepare demonstrations for future stakeholder workshops and conferences. The consortium also exchanged ideas on strengthening collaboration with other Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership (SBEP), Horizon Europe and ESA-funded projects working on Digital Twins and marine data services.
Beyond the meeting room, participants had the opportunity to visit the brand new Icelandic oceanographic and fisheries research vessel Þórunn, kindly accompanied by Iceland's Marine and Freshwater Research Institute (MRFI) personnel, where project partner Kongsberg Discovery has several advanced marine monitoring instruments currently deployed on board. The visit provided valuable insight into how state-of-the-art observing technologies contribute to collecting the high-quality ocean data that underpin Digital Twin applications for sustainable fisheries.

The Icelandic hosts also added a memorable personal touch to the event by surprising the consortium with a specially designed ARCFISH-themed cake, celebrating both the progress made by the project and the strong collaborative spirit that has developed across the partnership.
As ARCFISH enters its final project year, the consortium remains focused on delivering an operational pilot Arctic Digital Twin of the Ocean that integrates environmental, ecosystem and fisheries data to support more informed, resilient and sustainable fisheries management across the Arctic.
